Every treatment
begins with music.
It all begins with music
A treatment does not begin with an image or the idea of a beautiful shot. It begins with music.
Before imagining a future film, I listen to the track many times. I need to understand not only the lyrics, but what sits behind them: the mood, the inner tension, the emotion the author wanted to convey. Sometimes the music itself is enough. Sometimes I go deeper — into an artist’s or band’s story, the period when the song appeared, and the events and experiences that may have shaped it.
The task is not to put lyrics literally on screen. What matters is finding the emotional core — the feeling around which an independent cinematic story can be built.
When music becomes images
After several listens, the first images begin to emerge. Sometimes it is a person’s face. Sometimes an empty road, a room, a particular light, a camera movement or a brief scene. Sometimes the ending arrives before the beginning is clear.
I capture these fragments without trying to turn them immediately into a finished plot. I return to the track a few hours or a day later. Some ideas disappear. Others become stronger. New connections and details appear.
This is an important part of the process for me. A good idea rarely comes from trying to invent it in one evening. It needs time for music, emotion and visual images to begin existing as one whole.
From an idea to a film
When I understand what the story truly needs to be about, the director’s work begins.
Characters appear, along with their personalities and relationships. I define the places they inhabit, the atmosphere, time, light, camera movement and visual language of the future film. The story becomes chapters, or develops as one narrative. Its key moments begin to take concrete form.
Then I visualise the world: its characters, locations, scenes, composition and the mood of individual frames. Gradually, what existed only as a feeling while listening to the song becomes a story you can already see.
That is how a treatment appears.
It is not the film yet. But you can already feel it.
A treatment should not lock every frame of a future music video in advance. Its purpose is different: to reveal its world.
It lets an artist, management team or label see the direction before production begins: understand the story, feel the atmosphere, meet the heroes and see what the song’s visual language can become.
If that world matches what the artist feels, we turn it into a film.
